My youngest student is a hands-on artist who needs to have plenty of craft-art style work that corresponds with her lessons in order to learn, so I was thrilled to get a chance to review Rigid Wrap and CelluClay Quik-Sculpting Kit and Kids Craft ebook ACTÍVA Products' Favorite Sculpture KIDS CRAFTS from ACTÍVA Products .
What is Rigid Wrap and CelluClay Quik-Sculpting Kit?
The kit came with three separate components:
Rigid Wrap
CelluClay
Digital e-Book
The Rigid Wrap comes in a long rolled-up strip that you cut to the size needed. It reminded me of the stuff casts are made of for broken arms. Simply wet it and sculpt.
The ebook contains 29 pages filled with 12 project ideas from cute spiders to peppermint bowls or erupting volcano projects.
I received two boxes. One was the Rigid Wrap and the other was a box of CelluClay. I also was sent a digital downloadable ebook that was filled with crafting ideas. The projects ideas included in the box were designed with children in mind and with the assumption that they will have some amount of parental assistance, but these products could just as easily be used with older students or adults. They put together a special digital ebook with bright, colorful photos and project instructions to go along with the CelluClay and Rigid Wrap. You can download this book for free from their website! There are some basic guidelines printed on the box, and there was a brief informational sheet included inside the box, but the ebook was a fantastic resource to have. The materials provided were enough to finish several projects.
How Did We Use It?
As soon as I received the e-book, I downloaded it and looked it over and had some ideas in mind for my daughter to work on. When the box arrived in the mail, however, she immediately opened it and went to town, so I had to jump in and slow her down she was excited! She started with the sculpting kit strips, which were amazingly easy to use and not very messy at all but did require water which was not a problem. And, then she started to sculpt the peppermint bowl suggestion using the CelluClay. She didn't finish the bowl but did finish other projects. Her favorite was making butterflies and then creating her own elephant.
What Did We Think?
My daughter is a hands-on art work all the way kinda kid. So, she had the box opened before I could even take a look at all of the instructions. I had, however, already looked over the ebook, so I had a basic idea of what I wanted her to do with the kit. She absolutely went to town with this kit and loved it. When we opened and used it, there was some white powdery dust that blew out of the package, but after using paper mache' from scratch in all its glory and a plethora of other art work projects, this was relatively non-messy and didn't leave a ton of cleanup, and we had plenty of material to complete a few projects. It could be used for any number of school projects or just to have some artistic fun. It was a win-win thumbs up at our homeschool.
