Journey through the Code - Lesson One The Kingdom Code

This post is sponsored and any curriculum purchased through my affiliate code will provide commission and compensation to the owner of Puddle Jumping Blog.

Welcome to my journal blog entries about what it is like to use the Kingdom Code curriculum that teaches kids financial responsibility and how to build a business God's way. Today we are sharing about Lesson 1 in our Journey Through The Code, sponsored by The Kingdom Code. Come with us on a 27-lesson journey as we journal about our experience with The Kingdom Code curriculum!

We were asked to have our child choose a viable business before the end of Lesson 2 and to complete the Treasure Builder Permit form.

The program emphasizes service businesses, even though we are free to choose a goods-related business instead. The reason they stress service is because business usually requires less money since a goods business requires purchasing supplies and figuring out costs for each item. Service teaches children the ability to please someone else in order to receive compensation. If you choose a goods business, many of the activities will have to be adapted and cost/sale price must be taught thoroughly so profitability is achieved.

Here's our experience with LESSON ONE:

The lessons start with reciting a proclamation.

They continue with a biblical Scripture-focused lesson that consisted of a Path to the Kingdom Code, a proclamation, a worksheet, a Scripture, putting on the armour of God, learning the key concept of being financially responsible, learning vocabulary associated with the lesson, discussions, talking about Treasure Seeking (building a business), an activity, counting money, and bonus activities.

A large part of preparing for the lessons was to put together a 3-ring binder and folders and add tabs to the different sections to make them easy to find:

ACTIVITIES IN THE LESSON THAT WE FOUND TO BE ENGAGING:

While the lesson is thorough and keeps the student engaged throughout, for lesson 1, we enjoyed the hands-on bonus craft ideas the most. We were asked to paint a rock and write on the back the day the child asked Jesus into their hearts. My daughter was baptized Sunday, though she had asked Jesus in earlier. She also designed a pipe cleaner man with the armour of God.

SUGGESTIONS, CHANGES, OR ADDITIONS MADE THAT WORKED PARTICULARLY WELL FOR OUR FAMILY:

My main suggestion that helped us is to get a Zip-seal bag to keep the flash cards in, and a folder with pockets to keep loose pages.

There is a theme song that is actually very well done, and we are a very musical family. But, I think it may be more fitting for a group setting than just one-on-one singing a song each time we meet for the lessons. Still, check it out:

RECORDED OBSERVATIONS OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, MONEY SKILLS, BIBLE KNOWLEDGE, LIFE SKILLS, SOCIAL SKILLS, OR POSITIVE BEHAVIORS EXHITIBED OR ACQUIRED BY MY CHILD THAT I DIRECTLY ATTRIBUTE TO THE KINGDOM CODE CURRICULUM:

After Lesson one was over, and we were going about our day. I noticed that we kept pointing out areas of financial responsibility. For instance, we played the Game of Life, and we discussed this quite a bit. She is also encouraged to be creative in ideas for making money... Treasure Building!

Lesson One - Complete... We added the sticker!
