As a work-at-home mom of three children, I was thrilled to get a chance to review Balancing Diapers and Deadlines from Lisa Tanner Writing.

What is Balancing Diapers and Deadlines?

This review was so refreshing for me as I felt like it was the boost I needed. I really was drawn to the title, since it infers that as moms, we are busy and need to take time to sit down and focus on our goals for the here and now as well as for building a strong foundation for our future. Of course, if you are a reader of my blog or know me personally, you may be asking why me, a mom of rapidly growing not-so-little any more children, would need a book about diapers. Don't let the title fool you! It's about more than moms with babies trying to run a household.

The course was designed with busy moms in mind to help us find time to work on our businesses while raising and homeschooling children, and that includes if your "business", or mission as I have often thought of it, is running a household and raising kids. Think of it as a time management and productivity course. The author is a homeschooling mom who also happens to be a member of The Old Schoolhouse Homeschool Review Crew. The course is online and text based, so it doesn't blast you with over-stimulation and doesn't require a fast internet connection.

I work from home, writing for online sites as well as handling all of the administrative and financial aspects of my husband's solo music career. When I'm not doing one or the other of that and not homeschooling or driving a child from here to there, I spend time flipping thrift store finds while clearing out and selling the contents of our always cluttered basement on eBay. I am a mom of 3, though two are teens now and my youngest is rapidly approaching her teen years, the material included was so very pertinent.

It is all presented online with easy-to-read sections followed by action steps. Within each of the 8 units, there are lessons to read through and then brief action steps, hands-on homework if you will, to do before moving on.

How Did We Use It?

While ultimately I realize my response to this material will have an impact on my family, I really felt like this one was for me. And, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I sat down with my cup of coffee in the early morning hours before anyone else was awake in my household, and I soaked in all of the information that I could. The chapters that most appealed to me were the one on meal planning and the one about starting a business with kids underfoot. One of the lesson chapters even took me to helpful links about cleaning, which is also a big need for us.

What Did We Think?

This was fabulous! It's presented in such an easy-to-follow format, and in segments that take very little of your time to read but contain action plans that are obtainable throughout the day, week, month to follow.
