Math is one of those subjects that I really appreciate finding and using a solid curriculum to help in teaching my children, so I was thrilled to get a chance to review the CTCMath Homeschool Membership from CTCMath.

What is CTCMath?

CTCMath is everything you need to master math skills throughout all of the elementary, middle, and high school years. I received a one-year CTCMath Homeschool Membership to the CTCMath site. With this, an overflowing abundant stream of math instruction was opened up for my children. We were given access to every lesson at every learning level, from Kindergarten through Trigonometry and Calculus.

The site provides individual lessons that are presented in a short video lesson, followed by a series of questions. Also included are online diagnostic tests that fall in line with my specific state's standards. As your student progresses, he or she receives achievement awards on-screen that can also be printed.

There is a parent login and a student login. The parent site allows you to see progress reports of each of your children, up to 10 students. It also allows you to see when they log on or complete assignments and lets you assign tasks individually.

While work is viewed and completed online, the site also gives you the option of a PDF format viewing and printing of the lesson summary, reports, tests, and questions.

How Did We Use It?

I was anxious to get started. I logged into my parent account and set up my three children as students. I tried out assigning a task. Though, I have control of assigning tasks to my children, I don't have to do that step in order for them to see and complete each lesson. When my students logged on, they were able to select the appropriate level and lesson that pertained to their individual grade level and ability.

My one daughter is hoping to master the ACT this year and knows she will need to be fairly fluent in higher level math skills, so I had her select Algebra for starters. My younger daughter is all over the place on math ability and usually quite terrified to go beyond multiplication, so I started her out at a level below her capabilities and had her take a diagnostic test from the start. My son is headed into his junior year and has previously enjoyed CTCMath for Geometry and a bit of Pre-Calculus. Though, the site seemed to have upgraded nicely with up-to-date features recently.

ONE VERY NICE FEATURE IS THE OPTION TO PRINT WHAT YOU CHOOSE.

When the student logs on, they are able to customize their dashboard colors.

From there, they are offered a short, standard or comprehensive diagnostic test and a list of lessons. Any tasks that I assigned as the parent will show up on their dashboard as well, along with reports of their progress and awards that the student is able to view. There is also a section where the student can complete speed drills, a times table game that's like Space Invaders, and a critical thinking game.

We were able to not only use it on my laptop but also pull it up on my iPhone and on my younger daughter's PSVita. Other than the video lagging to load at first on the PSVita, it worked great on every device we tried. This is FANTASTIC in my overtly flexible, on-the-go homeschool environment.

What Did We Think?

As a side note - My older daughter especially loves that the instructor has an Australian accent. This held her interest well. It is wonderful to have math concepts explained, not only in words on paper but also to see the problems worked on screen and listen to the solution be described. It's nice that you can review the video if you need to. I also loved that the program gives the option to print a PDF whenever you prefer to hold something tangible in your hands for a worksheet, test, or for filing reports in school records.
