What is Middlebury Interactive Languages?
This is an online high school level language course. Everything is done online using drag and drop, drop-down menus, and other easy-to-use on-screen tools with complete access to hearing and speaking French. It starts with an introduction video that explains how to use the site. The courses are divided into 36 units - 2 semesters with 18 units per semester. Each unit included 5 lessons. There are quizzes in lessons 3 and 4 and a test in lesson 5. Each semester is intended to be completed within 6 months, so both semesters covers a full calendar year of learning. This means, that for a student to complete the semester within the given time frame, he or she needs to work at least 3 lessons a week to stay on track.
The units begin by setting forth the Unit Objectives
You then work through the segments onscreen, and each segment allows you to click on the screen to hear how the word is properly pronounced.
Then, there is the chance for your student to put what was learned to the test by matching the words to the pictures:
The speaking labs allow you to hear the sentences spoken properly, and then gives you the chance to speak it into the mic and compare how it sounds.

You are also given the opportunity to fill in the blank and other grammar lessons. At this level, even the instructions are in French:
There are also some fun with a joke, games, pop quizzes, a speaking journal, vocabulary guides, putting words in order, conversation stations, and reading segments along the way.
How Did We Use It?
My oldest daughter had used Middlebury Interactive Languages for her High School French I course, so I was excited to be offered the chance to review French II. I set her down to see what she thought of the more advanced level.
What Did We Think?
I love how this course is far from boring, pen and paper conjugating words like I did in high school. Although, it does provide a very sound foundation of French grammar along the way. Middlebury Interactive Languages allows the student to work at good pace while providing all of the audible pronunciations and written French words that is necessary to really delve in and learn the language for the purpose of really speaking it in France or among other French-speaking individuals. I really like how the pronunciation is included with sound. A really nice feature is the ability to speak the words back and compare whether or not you spoke them properly. I love how this level is presented entirely in French, instructions and all. It really puts you inside the world of speaking French with colorful images. It keeps the student engaged with interactive exercises and short video lessons interspersed along with pop quizzes and activities with on-screen, immediate results.
