So, our homeschooling year is coming to an end, and in just a matter of a few hours, I will no longer have a high school senior, sophomore and elementary student. Instead, I will be saying hello to a high school grad, a high school junior and a 7th grader.
Aghhhhh!!
How'd I get here? And, where did my littles go?
I miss those little sweet days when teaching them to read was the main focus. Now that they all can read, teaching is actually not that difficult. However, I have learned a few things about myself during this year of teaching.
One thing I learned is something I don't want to admit, but it's true - We just don't do well with digital curriculum. As shocking as that is coming from me who spends a lot of hours online working, and with a son who eats and breathes coding and modding, and a digital art daughter, as well as another who started a blog of her own along with a YouTube channel - Why don't we like digital curriculum?
I'm not sure what it is but we really like workbooks and the feel of turning a page with that paper in between our fingertips. I personally also love the smell of new books.
I've tried to deny my lack of luster for digital, but I'm coming to terms with it. I don't like the toner it eats up from our printer because we really need that paper print out sheet, and I don't like the hours staring at the artificial light of a computer or phone screen.
Having said that - I love how much information is available literally at our fingertips in the digital world.
It just doesn't work for us to use as a curriculum!
