Homeschool Review Crew - God Schooling: How God Intended Children to Learn

Review, #hsreviews, #GodSchooling, #ChristianUnschooling, #RelaxedHomeschooling, God schooling, Christian unschooling, relaxed homeschooling, Julie Polanco

My recently graduated son spent his last three years of school in an unschooled environment, which brought a lot of peace to our household along with a lot of moments of anxiety and self-questioning on my part as to whether or not I was actually failing him somehow by allowing him to explore his own interests and not follow a prescribed curriculum plan, especially as I sat down to consider college with him and how to answer inquisitive relatives, so I was thrilled to get a chance to review God Schooling: How God Intended Children to Learn from Julie Polanco. The book addresses how children develop and learn naturally. Some call this unschooling, but the book delves into it well.

As I began to read the words in Julie Polanco's book, I was especially inspired and encouraged that I really have been hearing from God as to how to approach my youngest's education as well.

What is God Schooling: How God Intended Children to Learn by Julie Polanco?

If you have ever questioned your ability to teach your children.

If you have ever thought how wonderful it would be to allow your children to learn through natural
play time but didn't know how to handle the judging eyes of onlookers.

If you have ever watched your child thrive and come alive as they explore their own interests but then question if you are failing them by not insisting on completing a boxed curriculum.

If you have ever wondered if you are just too weak and caved under pressure of the fight from a child not wanting to complete daily lessons...

If you have ever wanted to base your home educating style on a relationship between God and you and your children.....

THIS BOOK WILL LIFT YOUR FEARS AND GIVE YOU THE NEEDED COURAGE TO FOLLOW WHAT YOU BELIEVE GOD IS ASKING YOU TO DO...

The book addresses a perspective of educating your children at home in a freeing, child-led, God-led manner. Throughout the book, all of her conclusions are backed by numerous studies conducted by well-respected educational experts, such as John Holt or Charlotte Mason and thousands of psychological studies that explore how children learn and develop into successful adults as well as, first and foremost, Scriptures.

Julie Polanco is the author of God Schooling: How God Intended Children to Learn and 100 (no and low cost) Ways to Motivate Kids. She has homeschooled her four children from the start and graduated her oldest a couple of years ago. So, she is coming at the words in her book from a perspective of a veteran in the field of parenting and teaching her kids at home and not just spewing out advice. She has lived what she discusses in the book.

I received an author-signed, paperback, hand-held book that contained 163 pages of text with 9 chapters of reading.

Each of the 9 chapters is followed by a page of thought-provoking study guide style questions for you to ponder and pray about.

The book begins with an introduction that is called How to Use This Book that explains the perspective from which the book was inspired. It is then followed by A 2-part, 2-chapter section that addresses dispelling myths. These chapters are packed with Scriptures that will encourage you and make you think and motivational words as you aspire for excellence into what God has called you in regards to helping your children learn naturally and as God intended.

The second part of the book includes 7 chapters that are separated into how to teach children under the age of 8, between the ages of 8-12, how to help teens develop their wings to get ready to fly on their own and then discusses how learning is like spreading out a banquet before your children. These informational and study-backed chapters are followed up with chapters about how to get started with child-led, natural learning in your home, addressing some common questions and answers, and how to keep records of untraditional learning in a world that demand proof of academics being taught.

The final pages of the book include concluding remarks, a little bit about the author, and of course, a bibliography.

How Did We Use It?

I took every quiet opportunity I could to slip away to read. This review fell within the timeframe of when I was celebrating my birthday and when my husband was away, so I had extra opportunities of using some birthday freebies at restaurants and such to slip away for reading as well.

LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS QUOTE!

What Did We Think?

THIS BOOK IS A GODSEND! It was an answer to prayer for me and offered so much reassurance.

It addressed every fear, every trepidation, every question, every insecurity, and just about every question I've ever thought about asking. While my middle child only really has one more full year of high school and really thrives on her own using a mixture of living books and textbooks or workbooks, the book was completely reassuring to me and my decision to unschool my oldest who just graduated and reinforced the idea of using less traditional methods with my youngest. I may have even discovered a path to my oldest, recently graduated, son's future career through a suggestion in the book.
