Book Review - Rabbit & Bear Rabbit's Bad Habits

I was so excited to have the opportunity of receiving Rabbit & Bear Rabbit's Bad Habits by Julian Gough and Jim Field, published by Silver Dolphin as part of the Media Masters Publicity.

Bear is in for some unexpected surprises when she suddenly is awoken in the middle of hibernation by a food thief who stole all of her stored food. Since she is awake, she decides to make the most of winter and build a snowman. That's when she encounters Rabbit, a grumpy neighbor, who decides to build an even better snowman.

An unlikely friendship has begun......

The bear's kindness and generosity begin to soften and sweeten Rabbit's sour demeanor.

The story is intended for readers ages 6-8, Grade Level 1-3 and is part of the Rabbit & Bear series. It is a nice hand-held size hardcover, 112 pages packed with fun illustrations.

Packed with action that starts with a bear waking in the middle of winter to avalanches, building snowmen, learning about gravity, and attempting to escape from a hungry wolf, the story will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final page that unites an unlikely pair, involves forgiveness, sharing, and softening a curmudgeon of a rabbit.

Rabbit is a grumpy long-eared being that is rude and has nasty habits. One habit is specifically noted that I had never heard of and wondered if rabbits actually did such a thing. So, I googled it, and to my amazement. It's a thing! I won't give away the specifics, but rest assured this book presents it in a unique manner that takes a scientific fact and makes it part of this rude character of a rabbit but not in an inappropriate way.

The book would make a fun read-aloud at bedtime or to inspire an impromptu science lesson about bears, hibernation, gravity, hunger, digestion, and rabbits.
