Managing Multilingual Workplaces
Any good management style starts with good communication, and you don’t have to speak the same language to make this happen. There are ways to integrate good communication skills that bypass any foreign language barrier. For starters, establish an open-door communication policy setting the tone that everyone is of value and welcome to contribute ideas. Secondly, instill trust and diversity. Identify everyone’s strengths and allow opportunities. This often comes down to training everyone in not only language but also cultural differences. Finally, always be open to suggestions for improving the workplace even if it means slowing down a bit or calling in someone who can translate a conversation.
