A Father's Day Tribute to Homeschool Dads

Happy Father's Day to homeschool dads!

This is John, my husband and father to my 3 amazing children.  One of them is in the picture with him, above.

John is a homeschooling father.

Homeschool fathers are a special breed - really they are!

Of course, not everyone is the same.  But, many probably share some similarities.  Here's some traits I've noticed in my husband, father of 3, and homeschool dad, John:

We call him the principal of our homeschool, but honestly, he hates to crack the whip.

He works hard, constantly, so I can be home full-time with the children....Even though I work far too many hours at far too little pay writing and selling eBay online.  He is the one who makes the bulk of our income.  He is self employed and works from the moment he wakes up until the moment his head hits the pillow at night, and often feeling as if he has nothing to show for it.  There may even be days when he feels like a complete failure, but he wakes up the next morning and does it all over again just to attempt to provide for his family.

He arranges his schedule to attend dance recitals and special events.

He wasn't sure, in the beginning, if he even really wanted to be a dad.  But, when we discovered that was going to happen, he plunged in full force even attending Bradley birthing classes, and ultimately, delivering our third child with no doctor's assistance.

He was raised in private Lutheran schools, and had never heard of homeschooling until I announced - pre-kids - that this is the way I wanted to go.  He never even questioned that decision.

Being a homeschool dad requires much of the grit needed to be any other kind of dad, but it also requires a special kind of commitment and love with a drive to unite a family and launch children into the next generation with a firm foundation.

Some homeschool dads take on the brunt of teaching while the wife pulls in the income.  I'm sure there are many days he feels like swapping roles.  But, I'm happy for the roles we each have.

Homeschool dads play a special role in a united homesschool family.

My hat is off to all of you who are homeschool dads, who have felt like throwing in the towel and giving up but instead stuck by your wife and children to make it work.

The Bible says to give honor to whom honor is due.  This is your special day to be honored - Homeschool Dads!
