Healthy Fast Food Options

Staying Fit While On The Go With FAST FOODS

So, you’ve started running or walking or at least getting up from the couch every so often for more than to grab another bag of chips.  You’ve got it all figured out when it comes to eating meals at home. It’s either salad, or fish or a meal shake substitute.

But, what about when you’re “on the run”?

Apparently, there are some healthy choices even when the only option is a drive-through fast-food restaurant. Here are some healthy options when you find yourself out and about with a rumbling tummy:

  • Burger King’s Veggie Burger or a Whopper, Jr. hold the mayo.

  • McDonald’s Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait
  • McDonald’s Premium Caesar Salad with GRILLED chicken and the low-fat balsamic vinaigrette (When it comes to salads, it’s what you top the healthy lettuce leaves and veggies with that packs on the calories and fat).
  • McDonald’s Grilled Honey Mustard Snack Wrap (Be sure to choose GRILLED, and not the crispy battered option).
  • If you choose wisely, you can even treat yourself with a side of small French fries….  Yes, I said small…  But, the small is bigger than what currently comes inside your kid’s Happy Meal.  And, it’s often just enough to satisfy that salty, snacky craving without overdoing it.
  • Taco Bell’s Steak Burrito Supreme
  • Taco Bell’s Fresco Chicken Soft Taco
  • Add a side of Pintos and Cheese and still keep it on the healthy fast track.
  • Wendy’s Chili – It’s so rich in protein, go for the large.
  • Garden Side Salad with a light dressing or a Baked Potato, but go easy on the sour cream and butter.
Of course, the most successful fitness plans happen when there are goals and guidelines - Not when your flying by the seat of your pants and find yourself in panicked hungry mode.

Always plan ahead by having plenty of water with you at all times. Carry a stainless steel water bottle that clips onto your belt loop, or some water bottles.

Of course, the best fast foods are those found in nature:

  • There is not much faster than ready-to-eat fruits such as apples and bananas
  • A little planning turns not-so-ready-to-eat fruits and veggies into a fast snack by washing and cutting ahead of time and then storing inside portable containers to grab before walking out the door.
