Have you ever seen a puppy, or a family's loyal dog, greet its owner after he or she has been gone all day? There is boundless energy and endless joy with tails wagging and licking and leaping. Some dogs seem to think that whenever the owner is out of sight, they may never ever come back again. When they do return, the joy is just immeasurable. Such relief! Such happiness!
How do I muster up that kind of joy?
Is joy something you can muster up all by yourself? I really don't think so. I really believe that true joy is only found when we are in the presence of God. The Bible says:
You will make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever. Psalm 16:11
As silly as it may sound, this Christmas, let's pretend we are someone's family pet who is greeting its long-lost owner.
