I was happy to get a chance to review A one-year subscription to Kids Email Safe Email for Kids from Kids Email.
What is Kids Email Safe Email for Kids?
In a nutshell, Kids Email Safe Email for Kids is an email server that is designed to give parents full control over what emails their child or teen sees or sends, and the best part is that there is no spam or unwanted advertisements. I received a one-year subscription for up to six children to Kids Email Safe Email for Kids from Kids Email.
Some of the features include:
- No ads!!!!!! And, Spam Filter - This is one of the best parts of Kids Email in my opinion. I love that I don't have to worry about annoying or harmful ads.
- Block Senders and Contact Manager - I chose to allow my daughter to send email to anyone but only to be able to receive email from those I approve.
- Custom mailbox folder
- Mail monitoring
- Time restrictions
- Intercept unwanted messages in the Mail Queue
- Remove links and images
- Control attachments
- Offensive word filter
- Template option
- Activity log - You, as the parent, are able to easily view what emails have been sent and received.
- Read It Feature (to help kids develop reading skills) on app
- Drawing Board on app
- Advanced features for older kids and teens (To change settings to better fit your child as they grow into a teen)
This is a genius idea that allows kids and teens to send and receive email through a stand-alone server on the Kids Email site. There are two separate log-ins - one for the parent and one for the child. The parent login allows parents to set the safe parameters they want.
Once it is all set up, it works much like any other email works within the parameters the parent sets.
When the child or teen is ready to log on, they use a separate login from the parent's. The child or teen sees only the email screen, designed with the pictures he or she chooses. They are able to write emails, send emails, and receive emails based on what the parent has chosen to allow or block. They see no spam or unwanted email, and they never see an advertisement pop up.
I checked out all of the options and settings. My favorite is that as a parent I can choose what my child sees through my parental controls. I will never have to worry that she tried to send money to a "rich prince in Nigeria" or help a stranded "family member" by sending a money order without my consent. I also don't have to worry about a computer virus or malware infecting our computer because of a pesky ad that popped up on an email.
I also checked out the setting screens that allow me, as a parent, to ground my child from email for a period of time I determine and to set restrictions on what times she can see or use Kids Email. It's so easy on the parent end, just a few clicks does the trick.
There is even an app to use. I thought I should download this app to see how well it works. The app seems to have a couple additional features to the PC version. One that is nice is the ability to draw on the screen. I did really like the drawing feature on the app. Your child can draw pictures and email them right from the app, or take and send pictures if you have it set to access their camera on their device.
I only have one child who actually qualifies as being a kid, so I logged on and got my daughter set up. She is 11. I set it so that she could send email to anyone, even if they are not on the contact list but could only receive emails from those who are approved by me. When your child logs on, they have the choice of several background frame borders to personalize it a bit. My daughter chose the pretty pink princess border.
From the Parent Login dashboard, you can choose from several actions that include security settings, setting time restrictions, and even grounding your child from email for a duration you choose:
Raising kids is not a job for those who lack wisdom, and it makes it especially challenging when dangers are not only the obvious ones where a child is in physical harm but also are coming at them 24/7 electronically. To avoid this, some parents restrict the use of the internet. When my children first were allowed to go online, I would insist that they did so in the living room where I could see or hear what they were encountering. However, I don't want to keep my kids in the dark ages prohibiting everything or banning anything electronic. This Safe Kids Email offers a way to allow children to safely use their own email account. They get a little freedom while you are still monitoring and looking out for them.
I love that the kids or teens log in is separate. The Safe Kids Email is a nice option to have if you have kids in the house. It works like any other email server, only this one runs on the boundaries that I choose, and my child only sees the beautiful princess border she chose whenever she logs on. I think the thing I love most is knowing that she will never see any unexpected email or ad or receive a spam email that contains a harmful link.
