We were asked to have our child choose a viable business before the end of Lesson 2 and to complete the Treasure Builder Permit form. So, today's lesson (Lesson 2) was very important.
The program emphasizes service businesses, even though we are free to choose a goods-related business instead. The reason they stress service is because business usually requires less money since a goods business requires purchasing supplies and figuring out costs for each item. Service teaches children the ability to please someone else in order to receive compensation. If you choose a goods business, many of the activities will have to be adapted and cost/sale price must be taught thoroughly so profitability is achieved.

Here's our experience with LESSON 2:
This lesson was a big one since it had her choose her business and give it a name. She filled out a worksheet, a Treasure Builder Permit, and a Business Notice. These had her agree that the money earned would go back into her business except for one exception we chose to be able to remove a portion for a monthly trip with her friend to the Disney Store.
The proclamation today was short but thought-provoking.
This lesson had her do quite a bit of research into service businesses and really make her think about what she may want to do.

I love how there is Scripture in every lesson!
This lesson had her do quite a bit of research into service businesses and really make her think about what she may want to do.
Since this lesson really churned up a lot of research and thought, we didn't focus as much on the Bonus activities, though they were good suggestions. We do plan on doing one of them throughout the week where we notice service jobs in our daily lives.
While we will be saving money she earns, she was very interested in making money so she can have money to use on a monthly girls day out with her friends. So, this got her excited and invested in completing the tasks ahead of her.
SUGGESTIONS, CHANGES, OR ADDITIONS MADE THAT WORKED PARTICULARLY WELL FOR OUR FAMILY:
She thought about all of the service-related jobs and really wasn't comfortable doing any of them. So, instead, she decided to focus on a good-related job where she creates crafts from crochet and knitting or baking that really has service at its root since she could also produce tutorials of how to do some of them. We found out about a craft fair that will take place in November that we are considering attending with baked goods and crafts.
Since she will be focusing on a goods-based business, we will be adapting the lessons to also calculate the price for materials, listing fees, etc.
RECORDED OBSERVATIONS OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, MONEY SKILLS, BIBLE KNOWLEDGE, LIFE SKILLS, SOCIAL SKILLS, OR POSITIVE BEHAVIORS EXHITIBED OR ACQUIRED BY MY CHILD THAT I DIRECTLY ATTRIBUTE TO THE KINGDOM CODE CURRICULUM:
This lesson really was thought-provoking as it was the start of a real business venture for my daughter and it required a lot of research skills.
