We were asked to have our child choose a viable business before the end of Lesson 2 and to complete the Treasure Builder Permit form. My child chose a craft-related good business.
The program emphasizes service businesses, even though we are free to choose a goods-related business instead. The reason they stress service is because business usually requires less money since a goods business requires purchasing supplies and figuring out costs for each item. Service teaches children the ability to please someone else in order to receive compensation. If you choose a goods business, many of the activities will have to be adapted and cost/sale price must be taught thoroughly so profitability is achieved.
Here's our experience with LESSON 3:
The proclamation today was about God's plans for us, which is very encouraging.
The lesson was about supply and demand and taking risks as an entrepreneur as well as choosing a mentor.
It also talked about the Goodnight-Loving Trail, which we had never heard about before, but now we know. We really like these little tidbits of history.
One of the bonus activities had her draw a map of the trail. Another had her study the flash cards and count money. She learned how to make cash.

When I took economics, somehow the idea of supply and demand always confused me, but she found it very easy to understand. Maybe it was the way it was presented that made it understandable and easy to grasp. Finding a mentor was actually easy for her. She already had one in mind. We also really liked the brief history of the Goodnight-Loving trail with bonus activities allowing us to learn more and express herself in art. I really like how the lesson describes entrepreneurs as taking risks and first needing to seek God's wisdom and the advice of others.
The scripture was also one that was especially applicable. I have always loved it:
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7
SUGGESTIONS, CHANGES, OR ADDITIONS MADE THAT WORKED PARTICULARLY WELL FOR OUR FAMILY:
This lesson was very good as is for us. the only adaptations we made was to change it from a supply based business to a goods-related one. The scripture is one I will quote often, and the idea of an entrepreneur being a risk taker is one I have always explained as not being afraid to fail. Once you are assured this is what you are to do, go do it and let God handle the rest.
RECORDED OBSERVATIONS OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, MONEY SKILLS, BIBLE KNOWLEDGE, LIFE SKILLS, SOCIAL SKILLS, OR POSITIVE BEHAVIORS EXHITIBED OR ACQUIRED BY MY CHILD THAT I DIRECTLY ATTRIBUTE TO THE KINGDOM CODE CURRICULUM:
My daughter really liked this lesson and found it easy to find a mentor. She immediately knew who that would be. We also worked more on counting money, which is a challenge to her, even though this was not one of the bonus activities in this lesson but was from the previous one.
