We were asked to have our child choose a viable business before the end of Lesson 2 and to complete the Treasure Builder Permit form.

This lesson focused on needs v. wants and being independent v. dependent by taking initiative and working hard. It expounded on the chart we started in lesson 22 and went more in-depth about what a need is and what a want is and how to resist thinking we need everything. It also talked about those who work with diligence even in spite of a disability.

The talk about workers who keep on going in spite of a disability hit home. My husband had a stroke in May, and we have been working as a family, as my daughter and I work through these lessons, to rebuild and regroup. He is a true inspiration in that he can no longer read, but he still performs music, by memory. He works hard to relearn additional songs. I'm not an entertainer, and neither is my daughter, so it is horrifying for us to imagine how it must feel to stand up in front of people performing music and singing and freeze on a lyric. But, he does it well!
SUGGESTIONS, CHANGES, OR ADDITIONS MADE THAT WORKED PARTICULARLY WELL FOR OUR FAMILY:
The only part of the lesson that stumped my daughter was the talk about being independent. While it did stress trusting God, it also talked about being independent and working hard on your own so as not to be unnecessarily dependent. She responded with:
"Can I be independent and still dependent upon God?"

Another point of discussion was about when a need was met. We easily came up with this one as recently the hospital forgave more than $30,000 of debit incurred from my husband's ICU visit in an out of network facility. We are still jumping for Praise on this one!
Another great point was the part of the lesson that suggested cleaning your room and finding things you no longer need. My daughter did this and is now selling some of her items to make additional income she can put back into her Treasure Builder or to use for outings.
