Today is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day. Don't worry if you didn't know, it's one of those fun holidays that most people only learn about when they stumble upon the information.
If your family is anything like mine, you're about 50/50 on who likes the chocolate ice cream. I'm one of those strange individuals who will usually choose something like Sherbet or Lime Ice as opposed to ice cream, and chocolate is definitely not on my list of favorites.
It is, however, on both of my daughters' list of best ice creams ever!
Some popular ice cream stores may even be giving away free scoops of ice cream to celebrate. Check your local ice cream parlors to be sure.
Besides having fun, what does National Chocolate Ice Cream Day have to do with homeschooling?
Well, for starters, it's fun days like these that spark interest in learning things like:
History (Click here for fun historic facts about ice cream)
Math (Ice Cream Math Pak from First Grade Fanatics)
Language Arts and Vocabulary (Ice Cream vocabulary puzzles from Vocabulary.com)
Science (Create your own chemistry lesson by making your own ice cream. Here's 10 ways to make it, from Wisebread.com.)
Have some fun with these links, or create your own lessons, with chocolate ice cream as the foundational scoop.
