Booklook for Bloggers Book Review - Go To Sleep Sheep!

I was so excited to have the opportunity of receiving a hard board book cover toddler book, Go To Sleep Sheep! as part of the Booklook for Bloggers program in exchange only for my honest review. It is published by Tommy Nelson as a Bedtime Barn Book and illustrated by Sydney Hanson.

The book is simply adorable and a fun way to read your children to sleep. It is durable and the perfect size for little hands to help turn the pages.

The book is shaped like a barn and is high-quality, toddler-durable board book thick. The illustrations throughout are sweet and include other barnyard animals in spots as well as the sheep The front has sparkle glitter on the moon and the words of the title, which I thought might be glow-in-the-dark, but I'm not sure. They didn't seem to glow for me, but if they are glow-in-the-dark, that would just make the book all the more enjoyable.

It also provides a poetic rhythm to the story as you read along which is always a perk, in my opinion, for children's bedtime stories, with each two-page section ending with the words,

"Time for sleep, sheep!"
"Ready for sleep, sheep?"
or
"Go to sleep, sheep!"

It is 22 pages of several short interactions between little sheep and their mama, who is trying to put them to bed. The sheep are not wanting to sleep.

First, the mom uses logic, to which one of her sheep says that they are hungry. Mama allows one quick snack. This is followed by a request for a story, which is followed by a claim that they are thirsty which escalates into a request for a tickle fight.

Mama tries again with the reasoning that is it time for quiet and asks them to cuddle close. They say their prayers, and they try to sleep.

In the quiet, she hears the smallest sheep say, "I love you most of all!"

{Insert heart melt! And, an Aw!!!}

The final pages include a barnyard scene with stars and mama again asking that they quiet down and not make a peep.

Finally, feeling safe and snug, the sheep fall asleep, and the final words of the book are:

"Sweet dreams, sheep!"
