I was thrilled to get a chance to review Fun Family Chess from Brain Blox.

IT'S LIKE TRAINING WHEELS FOR THE GAME OF CHESS!

What is Fun Family Chess?

Several years ago, when I was expecting my third child and the extended family was spending time at a beach house in South Carolina, my dad taught my two older children how to play Chess. Well, fast forward to today, and I realized that the baby I was expecting at the time is now 13 and never had that opportunity to learn at the hands of my dad, their grandpa, like the other two children did. So, now was her time to be introduced to the rules of Chess.

I received a really nicely packaged box that contained a wooden chess board, two pouches to hold the chess pieces, instructions, a colorful die, and cards that show the positioning and movement of the pieces. I also received links to helpful How-to videos regarding how to set up and play the game as well as access to more online chess-related games and resources. When you use the dice, you can play the game one-on-one, or as a team.

Find it for purchase on Amazon here:

The package was filled with helpful tools to learn the rules of chess by playing it like a board game. Roll the dice block, match the color coding, and follow the instructions. EASY! If that's not easy enough to understand, the site provides you with videos that show you everything step-by-step. Once you've mastered the game by playing it in this fun family manner, you can set the dice block aside and play the game the standard way, which is essentially the same movements but now you get to use strategy and problem solving without the help of the dice block. If you get stumped, it comes with a helpful, easy-to-read instruction booklet as well as many resources and videos to follow..

How Did We Use It?

What Did We Think?

This was really fun! I already knew the basics of playing chess but learned a few more high-tech skills. My youngest had never really played before, so she got to learn how to play by using the instruction and die to roll. This is a really practical yet fun way to learn chess, and then continue playing without the rolling of the die on a higher skilled level. The package allows you to do both, which I really appreciate. This is a definite winner and will stay in our family as a go-to game.
