What I'm Thankful for - In PICTURES

It's November! That means that there are daily posts from friends saying what they are thankful for each and every day. Like most Novembers, I've got off to a late start and now have to play catch up. So, instead of rambling on and on about what I'm thankful for, I thought I'd share some of my thankfulness in pictures instead.

However, I have limitations. The collage app I used on my phone only allows for 9-10 pics at a time. So, here's the first 10 days of November Thankfulness.

If you prefer the spelled out version, here goes:

I'm thankful for:

  1. a "fireplace" ambiance on a cold day, with a little girl peering out the window at the snow.
  2. Girls catching snowflakes on their tongues enjoying a "November Snow"
  3. Chocolate Scrabble
  4. Degas ballerina sculpture
  5. A safe trip to and from the St. Louis Symphony
  6. New boots for my pre-teen
  7. Pretty nails
  8. A beautiful colorful fall drive
  9. Funny clown noses
  10. Fun time enjoying my teen son acting goofy, reinacting a picture of him from years gone by on that same pedal tractor.

There's the first ten days' worth. So, here's the rest of the month in words:

11. Breathing
12. That I have a Savior
13. Marriage
14. A hubby willing to work
15. A talented hubby
16. Water
17. Coffee
18. Chocolate
19. Family
20. Health
21. Kleenex
22. Vicks Vapor Rub
23. Essential oils
24. Ear Drops with Garlic and Mullein
25. Turkey
26. Exercise ball
27. A laptop that works
28. My big cup
29. Salad
30. The ability to homeschool

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

TOS Review: Clued in Kids

Clued In KidsReview

I was so excited to get the chance to review the Slumber Party Clue Pad ($8.99 for kids 6 year old and up) and the Thanksgiving Treasure Hunt ($5.99 for kids 4-104) from Clued in Kids.

When I was a kid, my older brother loved to hide my Christmas gifts and then set up a treasure hunt scavenger hunt for me to find it. When I would walk through the house, uncovering pillows, looking under furniture, opening the fridge to push food aside, all to find the next clue - I would get more and more excited knowing that one of those clues would finally uncover my gift. When I would eventually find it, I'm not sure which one of us became more excited - me or my brother - Because he had so much fun setting up the hunt and watching me enjoy it.

Combine this fun with the potential of learning facts about holidays, or virtually and literally any subject, through treasure hunt excitement, and Clued in Kids is born.

I was thrilled to receive two of the Clued in Kids treasure hunts. I was especially excited about the Slumber Party Clue Pad since my youngest daughter was about to celebrate her 8th birthday. I decided it would be fun to go on a treasure hunt as a party game. My kids were pretty excited about this idea, too.

Clued In KidsReview

The Slumber Party Clue Pad I received as a physical product that contains all the fun I remember slumber parties being all about, with dares, secret codes, and even a pizza picture puzzle. It is recommended to be used with groups of 1-10 kids, ages 6 and up. It works well with kids of different ages playing together as well.

The Thanksgiving Treasure Hunt is, as the name implies, centered around the holiday of Thanksgiving. I received this one as a PDF with 12 printable clues that also teach facts about Thanksgiving. It's intended for families or friends, ages 4 to 104, so even Great Grandpa can join in the fun. The printable version was easy to print and then all I had to do was cut the cards, and they were ready to use. There were fun puzzles, but it wasn't just meaningless fun with this set. It is a really interactive fun and a fantastic way to learn about Thanksgiving.

The hunts are real easy to set up, It is expected to take 10-15 minutes to set up, but I think the 8 minutes set-up time printed on the front of the Slumber Party pad is even more realistic, as it is super easy to set these up.

  1. I started by reading through the instructions to get it ready to go.
  2. Begin to hide the clues
  3. Decide on what the treasure will be. It can be stickers, candy, money, pizza, cupcakes, a book, pencils, erasers, or any treasure as big or as small as you like - It's your choice. If you use it with a group, consider having a pot of treasure (several stickers, or gumballs, or a healthy snack, or an entire pizza to share)
  4. Helpful Tip: Be sure to hang onto the answer key as the kids go through the clues and work the puzzles, so you can easily help if needed.

It's that easy! Now, it's time to have some fun and maybe even learn in the process.

I also had a fun with the online Puzzle Maker that allows you to plug in your own questions and then select a place in your house where you want to hide the prize. You plug in the questions and answers, choose the location for the treasure, and then it automatically creates a puzzle that your child can complete and uncover the clue as to where to find the treasure.

Another Thankful Picture

Maybe not quite Pinterest worthy, but here's my second addition to my thankfulness picture posts for the month of Thanksgiving, November.

I love photography, and I love scriptures.  So, when you pair together thankful scriptures with photography, it makes me very thankfully happy!

Regardless, a trip to the pumpkin patch is one of my favorite homeschool field trips each year. One year it rained through the entire month of October, and I still miss not being able to enjoy the pumpkin patch that year.

The above picture is from this year's trip to pumpkin land.  You have to look closely to find the scripture, but it says "Give thanks tot he Lord for He is good.

There are times I love vibrantly rich photographs where the colors pop.  But, I also love the look of old-time pictures where the colors are muted.  It just seemed like a fall trip to the pumpkin patch called for a more old-time, muted look.

I hope you enjoy!

Giving Thanks in Everything

Since it's already November 6, I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon of all of you who are giving thanks for one thing a day for thirty days....

...No!  I'm not going to backtrack and come up with five things I'm thankful for to catch up.

Instead, I decided to try to come up with a new scripture that relates to being thankful and put it to a creative Pinterest-worthy (at least, I hope it's Pinterest worthy) creative photo word art.  My first attempt is above. If you like it, feel free to pin it, print it, frame it, or share it.

All I'd ask in return is for a link back to my blog, or perhaps a mention that it's created by Tere Scott.

The first scripture that came up when I researched this is from I Thessalonians.  It talks about giving thanks in everything.

Thankfully, I do not believe this means to give thanks FOR everything but rather IN everything.

In other words, no matter what kind of day I'm having, I remain thankful.  I'm not necessarily happy that things have gone haywire in one way or another. I'm not thankful that I have more debt than I care to talk about.  I'm not thankful that my kids don't like to read the classics.  I'm not thankful that the days are flying by and days spent with babies and toddlers have come to an end.

Rather, I remain thankful in my attitude that God has it all under control. I keep a cheerful and thankful heart filled with thanksgiving in general.

In the process, I become thankful that I have another day to teach my children through homeschooling (even if they turn up their noses to the teaching styles and ideas that excite me the most).

I become thankful that my children are healthy most days (even if this is a day I'm cleaning up after a sick child).

I become thankful that I am breathing (even if this is a day my sinuses are reminding me they indeed exist and need to be heard pounding in pain).

I become thankful that through it all, death no longer has a sting. I believe I have a savior who took on my shortcomings and sinful nature and became my sacrifice once and for all.  I become thankful that despite my human-ness and failures, I have been washed white as snow.  At least, that's what I believe.

This gives me strength and confidence to muster up thankfulness for another day.
